Potty Training Tips

Well we started about two weeks ago potty training Thomas. He does great going pee pee in the potty but WILL NOT POOP in the potty. He normally goes around the same time of day and we watch him like a hawk, but somehow he manages to sneek away for those few seconds and we then find the treasure in his underwear. It is sooooo frustrating. We offer goodies like skittles, jelly beans, M & M's as rewards which worked great with peeing. He even tells us now when he needs to go pee. Matt took him to Target and picked out a few toys together and they are sitting in the bathroom and once he goes #2 in the potty he can get one of the toys to play with. Even when we talk to him about it he will say, " Okay mommy I will go poop in the potty." But still no success. What should we do? HELP!

I just finished potty training Grace and it takes about 4 weeks before there are no accidents. In my 12 years of being a nanny I have found with boys it take a little more time. Have him sit on the potty every hour even if he does not go. Make a really big deal out of it and watch him like a hawk. Once he goes a few times he will want to keep doing it. Good luck.

i don't think i get a vote on this, but i'll be taking notes for how it goes!

i think my mom bought my brother He-man underwear (back in the day...) and he was adamant that he-man not get dirty. maybe that works for spiderman/spongebob.... too?

I would tell you to be patient and don't pressure. Every child is so different. Neely picked it all up at once. Ava's experience was very drawn out. It can be so frustrating that you want to scream. But do your best to not show them your frustration. I did show my frustratiion with Neely and it backfired. My mom is the one who ended up potty training her. I hope all is going well with the move. Tell Matt congratulations on graduating!! Love you guys!

Good luck with the potty training. You will have to let me know all of the tips for little boys. I love it that he tells you okay mommy. Very funny.

This is a tricky one with boys. We never have had a wet bed, but for the longest time, mine would rather play outside, poop in their pants, and not miss the action, rather than go inside and do their business! Makes no sense to me!

I used to give mine books to read on the potty. Hang in there! Only a few more years of this! ;)

I'm not even about to give advice on this because it scares me to even start thinking about potty training Adalie.
Just wanted to say that I've really been thinking of you guys a lot lately and wondering how your move was. How did you ever get packed chasing after 2 kiddos!? YOu are my hero! When u guys get settled you'll have to fill us all in on how Matt likes working out in the "real world!" So exciting!
